PingMeBud was the first product to do this, and they did it well. They ship a clean Whisper-based local listener with wildcard keyword matching, native macOS notifications, and a full-screen red border alert. They keep audio on-device. They have an offline grace period of seven days and they advertise no analytics or accounts. MeetPing exists because we wanted three things PingMeBud doesn't ship today: a transcript replay window so you can see what was said before the keyword (PingMeBud's own page doesn't advertise replay), phonetic / fuzzy matching for unusual proper nouns, and per-context profiles so the keyword set matches the meeting. We picked the Parakeet TDT v3 model instead of Whisper because Parakeet's streaming latency is better suited to a live alert tool. And we priced under PingMeBud because we're newer and have to.

Comparison reflects pingmebud.com at time of writing. Their wildcard match (e.g. promot* matches promotion / promoted) is one feature MeetPing doesn't ship — instead we run phonetic + edit-distance matching, which catches a different class of misses. Different tools for different priorities.
When to pick each one
Pick PingMeBud if: you want wildcard keywords (promot* matching promotion, promoted, promotional), you care about silence detection for awkward meeting pauses, or you're on macOS 12 / 13 (MeetPing requires 14.2+ for Core Audio Taps).
Pick MeetPing if: you want the 30+30 transcript replay on every ping, you have unusual proper nouns Whisper would mis-transcribe (phonetic matching handles those), you want per-meeting keyword profiles, or you live in a non-English meeting and want Parakeet's 25-language coverage.
